I started tracking my net worth back in April 2018. With some help from Personal Capital, I can see my net worth from 4 years ago was -10,000. Since that time, I finished my Bachelor’s and Master’s and completed my first year as a Primary Care PA.
In November of this year, (11/10/2022 to be exact), I reached my goal of having 0 dollars to my name!
As we are closing out 2022, my current net worth is roughly 6,600. The allotment is as follows
- High Yield Savings: ~10,500
- Checking: ~2,500
- 403 (b): ~22,000
- ROTH IRA: ~18,500
- Loans: ~47,500
The biggest drivers of my net worth are my biweekly retirement contributions and my monthly loan payments. More recently, I have also been placing 1,250 a month into a high yield savings account as Sharon and I are working towards a down payment on a home.
I entered 2022 with a net worth of -46,000. That is 52,000 dollars in the span of 1 year.
There was plenty to learn this year, chief among them being the impact of big ticket items. Namely, a new desk top, an engagement ring, and 3 vacations. I did not account for these with my budgeting, so there was a couple of times where my checking accounts was really scraping the bottom.
My goal for next year to be a bit more careful with my planning to avoid unnecessary stress. The coming year will bring wedding planning, a house search, more native plant purchases, a few vacations, and may even be the year I eliminate my student debt.
With the stress of work, I can find some joy knowing I am helping people, bettering myself, and working closer to financial independence. My hope is that money is never a limiting factor when it comes to caring for patients, family members and loved ones, friends, and myself.
