With school getting busy, and the pandemic stringing out further and further, Sharon and I have been choosing more convenient locations for weekly adventures (if we can manage to have one).
One of the places we have been frequenting is the Windsor Locks Canal State Park Trail.
There are two main entrances, each located at one end of the trail both of which are free. The northern entrance is located at the end of Canal Road in Suffield, CT, and there is a large parking lot that can fill up quickly on the weekends. The southern entrance is at 25 Canal Bank Road in Windsor Locks, CT, which also has its own parking lot, however, we have only ever driven past this one.
The path itself is essentially a small paved road that extends just over 4 miles. The miles are marked on the pavement and throughout your walk, you can view the Connecticut River and various wildfowl which rest delicately on the rocks surfacing above the water. The path is lined with all sorts of trees and wildlife who call this area home. Thanks to the proximity to the water, the walk is always accompanied by a nice, cool breeze. The trail can be quite busy and since it’s so narrow, it is a good idea to bring your mask.
This paved trail is a great option for biking, running, and just strolling. This place is perfect for an easy walk with a neat view.
