Now that winter is on its way, I am reminded of the joy of running with cold air on your face, made even more enjoyable by a beautiful and serene landscape ahead of you. This is the experience that West Hartford Reservoir grants you. Located at 1420 Farmington Avenue (with many other entrances), this park is actually composed of six different reservoirs and has excellent trails and cycling pathways.
Colin and I have been thinking about getting bikes recently, and this would be an incredible place to bike any time of the year. For now, though, I have been running the red and yellow loops on my days off from work. These two trails are about 3.5 miles each and can be combined with other loops for a long-distance run. My favorite thing about West Hartford Reservoir is the view of the water as you run through the trails. Similar to Ashley Reservoir in Holyoke, Massachusetts, the trails in the park bring you right to the very edge of the water.
While this park is beautiful all year round, it tends to be less populated in the winter, so I find that this is the best time to discover West Hartford Reservoir’s true peacefulness.
