With the weather staying warm and sunny this weekend, Sharon and I decided to look for a hike near the water.
We found Granville Gorge, a nice hidden spot right off route 57. To start, parking is easy; you can pull down the road marked by the sign, which will take you to a small round-about where most people park. If you miss the sign, no worries! There is a parking lot across the street which can fit many more cars.
The trail is pretty short (just over a mile – you can push down further, but there is no clear trail to follow), and begins as a dirt path that transforms into rockier and steeper terrain. Along the way, the view is scenic with flowing streams and large boulders all around. The water is crystal clear and pools into little waterholes scattered alongside the hiking path. If you keep an eye out, you might even see a few frogs sunbathing! We got there around 10 AM and had a lovely, peaceful morning to ourselves. Later on, the gorge became more occupied with other couples, families, and kids in bathing suits splashing around.
Granville Gorge offers you a chance to choose your own kind of hike, whether you want to journey deeper into the gorge for a more challenging and tranquil experience, or if you want to stay by the entrance and enjoy a family-friendly splash in nature’s own pools.
